Financial Support
The Bev Guymon Memorial Fund (BGMF) runs primarily on donations from the local community. The key focus of the fund is to support young basketball players who face financial or social barriers to continue to play at a national league level.
Maximum bursary amount is £250.
Who can Apply
- You must be under 19 years of age on 1st September 2023 (the start of the academic year). You must be a member of Solent Kestrel's basketball club.
- Require funding for membership fees or transport to training.
- Evidence of one or more of the following:
- young people in care.
- care leavers.
- young people claiming Income Support in their own name.
- young people claiming Universal Credit in their own name.
- disabled young people who receive both Employment Support Allowance and Living Allowance in their own name.
- Parental Income Support.
- Parental Income Based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA).
- the Guarantee Element of Pension Credit.
- Parental Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).
- support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
- or Parental Working Tax Credit/Universal Credit.
- Household income less that £30,000.
We will not fund:
- National appeals
- Loan repayments
- Activities where Central Government, the Health Authority, City or County Council are the most appropriate funding agency
- Where the primary benefit is not to a member of Solent Kestrels Basketball Club or, in relation to Organisation applications, a group within the Solent Area Basketball Association area
Determination process
- The Fund will set an allocation amount and priorities annually. The allocation amount is the total amount that will be distributed in any one year.
- The available funds and priorities will be published on the Solent Kestrel's Basketball Club website.
- Applications will be considered by The Fund Panel. The Panel will consist of one representative from the Bev Guymon family and one member of the Solent Basketball Club Committee.
- Panel meetings will take place as required. Decisions will be given within 2 weeks of the closing date. All applications with supporting documentation will be considered.
- The Fund may, in certain circumstances, contact the applicant with questions relating to the submitted application. This is to provide the panel with the best supporting information to determine the application.
- Completed applications will be assessed and scored against the Fund's priorities.
Successful applicants will also be required to:
- Enter into formal agreement with the Fund regarding the use of any award and be bound by those conditions (including any specific conditions imposed by the Panel).
- Only spend a successful award on the purpose applied for.
- Notify the Fund as soon as possible should a grant or any part of, not be required.
General Information
- Only one bid in the same financial year will be accepted irrespective of the amount requested.
- Successful bids for membership fees or transport costs will be paid directly to the club or transport company
